Research:
My research focuses upon legal issues in recreation and sport settings related to risk management, program development, and participant conduct. Recently, a study I headed up with two colleagues involved campus recreation administrators' level of awareness of risk issues compared to legal issues appearing in case law from campus recreational sport settings. The purpose of the study was to determine if campus recreational sport directors were concerned about the same issues appearing most frequently in published court decisions.
My teaching a human resource management course has impacted my research in that along with a colleague, I conducted a nationwide study on the factors affecting retention of recreation professionals in a municipal setting.
New research areas involve youth sport and diabetes and its impact upon college student's participation in campus recreational sports.
